Electricity in Togo is primarily supplied through thermal plants, imports from Nigeria and Ghana, and some hydropower. Based on 2013 data, Togo’s national electrification rate reached 27%, with associated electrification rates of 21% in rural areas and 35% in urban areas. As other countries in the region, Togo has good potential renewable energy resources for solar (solar radiation of 1700-2100 kWh/m2/year) and wind (annual average wind speeds that exceed 5 m/s in the coastal areas).
