Mauritania Electricity Profile: 300mw currently installed, 28% access, 2% rural access

Currently, Mauritania generates most of its electricity from thermal power plants using Heavy Fuel Oil (75%) with the remainder coming from Light Fuel Oil, hydropower, solar and wind, in that order. Based on 2013 data, Mauritania’s national electrification rate reached 28%, (2% in rural areas, 47% in urban areas).
