On January 7th, USAID and ACP Group rewarded the winners of the Selva Ganadora 2014 Contest. This is a USAID initiative with the collaboration of ACP Group and DEVIDA (National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs) that promotes the entrepreneurship of communities in the Peruvian jungle. 

December 5, 2014

Peru’s 1.35 million hectare Cordillera Azul National Park (PNCAZ) has been approved for the Amazon’s largest loan by a private investment fund, secured by carbon credits to promote forest conservation and sustainable agro-forestry.

The deal was unveiled by Peru’s Environment Vice-Minister, Gabriel Quijandría, the U.S. Ambassador to Peru, Brian A. Nichols, and the Sernanp director, Pedro Gamboa, in a joint announcement at the U.N. climate talks.

A lot of expectation was created around the Amazon Gold documentary screening, which shows the cruel reality of the illegal mined gold in Madre de Dios, Peru.

The documentary was seen on December 2nd at the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP20) in two different venues: at noon for the general public at Vivero auditorium, and in the afternoon at Pentagonito for environmental leaders.

The US ambassador in Peru, Brian A. Nichols, launched on November 6th the Social Capital and Community Forest Management Project in Pucallpa. The project aims to improve the conditions of indigenous population of Ucayali in community forest management, in order to conserve their natural resources and biodiversity.

October 16, 2014

With a colorful photography exhibition, last October 11th was launched the Believe in the Purus-Manu’s magic campaign, that seeks to strength the conservation of this natural corridor.

The photo exhibition is at the Peruvian Zoo Parque de las Leyendas until November 2nd.  The exhibit features photographs of the Purus-Manu Corridor, which includes the Peruvian regions of Ucayali, Cusco y Madre de Dios, and show their beautiful landscapes, exotic animals and amazing plants.
