Selva Ganadora (Jungle Winner) is a USAID/Peru development project that started in 2009.  The project includes training activities and dissemination of entrepreneurial skills in the Peruvian jungle communities.  Selva Ganadora gives recognition to licit entrepreneurial initiatives as alternatives to activities linked to illegal drug trade. Selva Ganadora is designed as a competition capable to fund some on-execution projects leaded by participating communities.

On Tuesday, December 3, 2013 the fifth edition of Expo Cacao Tocache was launched.  Expo Cacao is a result of the work of the Technical Cocoa Committee, a regional strategic alliance to consolidate commercial blocks for cocoa that will allow placing quality grain for the world.   Expo Cacao brings together experts in gastronomy, bakery, chocolatier and regional Amazon mixology, promising a variety and good seasoning of their dishes and innovations.   This fifth edition of Expo Cacao Tocache has over 30 stands of producers and business organizations that display a variety of cocoa products.

During the last week of October USAID/Peru Mission Director, Deborah Kennedy-Iraheta, visited Tejedo Arts, Llamely Tejedo’s company.  Llamely has received support from USAID/Peru Bosques  (Forestry Project). Peru Bosques is a $27.8 million Project geared to improve forest governance and environmental management, biodiversity conservation and forest-based economic opportunities in support of the US-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement (PTPA).

On September 22, 2010, President Barack Obama signed a Presidential Policy Directive on Global
Development. This policy directive marked the first time a U.S. Administration has formally
addressed the significance of international development for U.S. national security and as “a strategic,
economic, and moral imperative for the United States.” It also charges USAID with leading the
formulation of results-oriented country development strategies that will help host countries to be
more stable and prosperous.
