On September 29, 2017, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will organize a forum to discuss capacity development and enhancement of service delivery for local government bodies in the Kyrgyz Republic. Over 120 representatives of municipalities, local councils and civil society organizations from Jalal-Abad, Issyk-Kul, Osh, and Naryn provinces, national government, and international organizations will come together to share best practices and lessons learned.

The event will include presentations on innovative tools and strategies to improve local service delivery and ensure sustainability. Municipalities from Jalal-Abad and Issyk-Kul provinces will share their experiences and best practices in improving garbage collection services, establishing public-private partnerships to provide State subsidized arts and culture programming, and privatizing agricultural services.

A consortium of local firms – competitively selected by REFORMA – advised the ministry on development of this strategy.  Led by the Kyrgyz Mining Association, the consortium worked with the Mineral Resources Policy Department of the Ministry of Economy to analyze practices of countries with top-performing mining sectors.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) organized a series of public events throughout the Kyrgyzstan in observance of World AIDS Day. These events were conducted in Bishkek and Osh cities, and in Jalalabad and Chui oblasts. According to the data from Republican AIDS Center in Kyrgyzstan published in November 2013, 5,060 of people living with HIV are registered in the country, but experts estimate that the actual number is even higher.

The United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Youth Theater for Peace project will hold a public performance November 6 at 1:30pm on at the Dostuk Hotel (429 Frunze). This performance will demonstrate Drama through Conflict Transformation practices, which help youth to understand and resolve conflict both in their communities and at the national level.  All groups or individuals interested in the use of theater for community dialogue are invited to attend.   

The program is supported by USAID and the Kyrgyz Ministry of Agriculture and has provided seed farms with modern ag. machinery.
