On September 29, 2017, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will organize a forum to discuss capacity development and enhancement of service delivery for local government bodies in the Kyrgyz Republic. Over 120 representatives of municipalities, local councils and civil society organizations from Jalal-Abad, Issyk-Kul, Osh, and Naryn provinces, national government, and international organizations will come together to share best practices and lessons learned.

The event will include presentations on innovative tools and strategies to improve local service delivery and ensure sustainability. Municipalities from Jalal-Abad and Issyk-Kul provinces will share their experiences and best practices in improving garbage collection services, establishing public-private partnerships to provide State subsidized arts and culture programming, and privatizing agricultural services.

On September 17, 2014, the AIDS Foundation East-West (AFEW) and USAID launched the HIV React Project in Bishkek.  The HIV React Project is a two-year regional program that seeks to expand the services available to strengthen prison-based HIV prevention, treatment, and care services, with a special focus on people who use intravenous drugs and those living with HIV in detainment settings.  The project will use a well-tested model of support for prisoners before and after release, which will serve as a bridge from prison to society and minimize the risks of contracting HIV.

On September 18, 2014, the USAID Kyrgyz Agro-Input Enterprise Development Project (KAED) will host a close out ceremony to highlight achievements in the Kyrgyz Republic’s agricultural sector since the project began in 2001.  With the goal of improving food security for the country, the project has helped tens of thousands of Kyrgyz farmers increase yields of wheat and other vital food crops, as well as the quantity and quality of animal feed for the production of milk, eggs, and meat.

USAID’s Kyrgyz Agro-Input Enterprise Development Project (KAED), jointly with the Tim Agro agricultural cooperative will host a field day for local farmers and other agricultural specialists August 20, 2014. The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. on the fields of Tim Agro agricultural cooperative in Luxembourg village, Issyk-Ata rayon, Chui oblast.

July 2014 marks the start of the annual USAID-sponsored Summer Democracy Camp program, implemented by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), which has been promoting leadership in good governance among youth in the Kyrgyz Republic for over a decade. During the summer of 2014, IFES will be organizing two camps in Osh and Issyk-Kul, with the support of USAID/Kyrgyz Republic. Camps will bring together 120 secondary school-age children and – under a new initiative – teachers from around the country.

An official handover ceremony of a water measurement system will take place on June 23 along the Aspara River in village of Cholok-Aryk. The ceremony is part of a U.S. Government program fostering transboundary water cooperation funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the Regional Center for Central Asia (CAREC).  The project promotes cooperation on water management at the local level, particularly by involving local communities.

Residents of Taygariyev community in Jalal-Abad city celebrated the beginning of spring with a colorful festival Women Bring Music. The celebration, which took place in the secondary school named after Koshmatov, was conducted within the framework of the project Women’s Peace Banks. The project is being implemented by the Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia (EFCA) and funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
