From September 18-21, Kyrgyz apparel factories participated in the Apparel Sourcing Paris exposition for the first time, one of the largest international textile industry events. The trip was sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) as part of its effort to expand export markets for Kyrgyzstan’s garment industry.

September 26, 2017

On September 29, 2017, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will organize a forum to discuss capacity development and enhancement of service delivery for local government bodies in the Kyrgyz Republic. Over 120 representatives of municipalities, local councils and civil society organizations from Jalal-Abad, Issyk-Kul, Osh, and Naryn provinces, national government, and international organizations will come together to share best practices and lessons learned.

September 20, 2017

On September 15, Alan Meltzer, Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy, handed over 13,560 Kyrgyz language books to eight public libraries in Talas oblast. Each public library received a set of 1,695 books featuring tales, stories, riddles, and poetry for young readers. The books were donated under USAID’s Reading Together project, which works to improve reading skills for students in early grades.

USAID funded a production line, and by providing technical assistance to Adal Azyk and local farmers.

In partnership with the United States Agency for International Development, Adal Azyk, one of the largest meat processing companies in the country, opened a new slaughterhouse in Kochkor district of Naryn. The facility is one of only two in Kyrgyzstan that are compliant with international food safety standards, and which hold the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification that international buyers require.

The park will provide one more reason for tourists to extend their stays in Karakol before heading to the surrounding mountains, ultimately leading to higher incomes for local businesses and residents.

On Saturday, September 9, Alan Meltzer, Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy, with Damir Monoldorov, First Deputy of the Plenipotentiary of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic in Issyk-Kul Oblast, and Daniyar Arpachiev, Mayor of Karakol, announced the opening of the new River Park in Karakol city. The park will provide space for community events, and serve as a new venue for recreation and relaxation by the city’s many tourists and residents alike. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) renovated the riverfront area as a part of its broader efforts to promote job creation and higher incomes through increased international tourism in Karakol and throughout Kyrgyzstan.
