On 12.18.2013, USAID’s Youth Employability Skills (YES) Network established the Skopje Local Economic and Social Council (LESC).
On December 4th 2013, the USAID Interethnic Integration in Education Project, together with the City of Skopje, celebrated the completion of renovations at the Josip Broz Tito Secondary School in Skopje. The process of refurbishment, financially supported by the U.S. Government through the United States European Command (EUCOM), created a better learning environment for students and demonstrated the power of collaborative work by engaging all members of the community in the process.
On December 4th 2013, in Skopje, USAID launched two new energy sector projects: the Clean Energy Investment project and the Industrial Management project.
On Wednesday, November 27, USAID’s Clean Energy Investment Project, in partnership with the International Finance Cooperation (IFC) Balkan Renewable Energy Program and the Association of Renewable Energy Producers at the Chamber of Commerce, hosted the first of a series of Renewable Energy Stakeholder Forums. These forums serve as a vehicle for public-private dialogue on issues related to renewable energy.
At November 27th .2013, USAID launched its Teacher Career and Professional Development Project and presented the findings of a comprehensive study, Policies and Practices: an Analysis of Teacher Career and Professional Development in Macedonia. The study recommends upgrading existing legislation and developing teacher standards and instruments for evaluation. USAID’s project will actively involve teachers and education stakeholders in the implementation process.
On November 26th 2013, USAID’s Youth Employability Skills (YES) Network Project celebrated the re-opening of a Job Club in the Employment Center in Skopje. This is one of seven job clubs renovated and re-equipped by USAID in municipalities throughout Macedonia. At each job club, USAID provided new furniture, IT equipment, books and other resource materials valued at U.S. $5,000.
The USAID Youth Employability Skills (YES) Network Project opened a career center in the Zdravko Cvetkovski secondary school in Skopje today. This is one of ten school career centers that USAID will renovate and equip in Skopje this year. USAID provided new furniture, IT equipment, and books and other resource materials.
USAID Mission Director, James Stein symbolically opened the corn harvest today in Pelagonija where farmers, with the help of the USAID Small Business Expansion Project and its Grow More Corn initiative, have achieved record-breaking corn yields this growing season. The first phase of the initiative began in May with the financing and installation of drip-irrigation technology and training programs to teach innovative farming practices to 40 farmers in Polog and Pelagonija.
On October 17th, 2013, 103 entrepreneurs, owners of micro and small businesses in Macedonia, were recognized for successfully completing the Entrepreneurs Class, Entrepreneurs Finance Class and Program in Collection of Receivables implemented by the Center for Entrepreneurship and Executive Development (CEED) Macedonia with support from the USAID Micro and Small Enterprises Project.
