March 15, 2017 - Today’s event at Hotel Alexander Palace in Skopje marks the achievements and joint efforts in the last five years of the USAID Interethnic Integration in Education Program (IIEP) in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science, educational institutions, municipalities, schools and partners. The objective of this program was to integrate children of various ethnic backgrounds through education and other activities. IIEP involved schools, teachers, children and parents, local leaders, and entire communities in developing interethnic relationships and building the foundation for a better future. In his remarks, Mr. James Stein, Mission Director of the USAID Macedonia, noted that “For many years, USAID has worked closely with the Government of Macedonia, municipal leaders, and other partners to improve access to a quality education for all of Macedonia’s learners. We have made great progress in this effort.

 International Day of Rural Women

On October 12th 2013, in the village of Shipkovica, the USAID Small Business Expansion Project and the Municipality of Tetovo celebrated International Day of Rural Women with an event that promoted employment opportunities for the rural women of Polog. For example, a professional herb collector can earn double the national average salary (approximately $900) for 8-10 months per year. Depending on the number of existing collection facilities, it is estimated that some 500 rural women from Polog could benefit financially from herb collection.

On October 8th, 2013, the USAID Interethnic Integration in Education Project, together with the Municipality of Staro Nagoricane, celebrated the completion of renovations at the Hristijan Todorovski Karpos Primary School in the village of Dragomanc. The process of refurbishment, financially supported by the U.S. Government through the United States European Command (EUCOM), created a better learning environment for interethnic integration in education.

On September 19th,2013, in Kumanovo, the U.S. Agency for International Development, in cooperation with the Municipality of Kumanovo, gathered business and NGO representatives as well as members of the public to present the activities and results of the USAID Persons with Disabilities Internship and Employment Project.  The project aims to make disability issues visible to the private sector and broader community while promoting equal rights for social and economic inclusion of people with disabilities.

Climate Change Caravan

9th Spetember 2013, in Valandovo, the Climate Change Caravan, organized by the USAID Adaptation to Climate Change in Agriculture (ACCA) project, started its autumn campaign throughout Macedonia.  The Caravan will make four stops during this month.  It was designed to reach rural communities and educate small farmers and other citizens about the anticipated effects of climate change, share strategies for adapting to these effects, and emphasize the importance of proactive responses to them at the grassroots level. 

U.S. Support for Renovations at Primary School in Centar Municipality

The process of refurbishment, financially supported by the U.S. Government through the United States European Command (EUCOM) and USAID, created a better learning environment for interethnic integration in education.

Readers Are Leaders

On September 11th, 2013, the new Readers Are Leaders Project was launched in the National and University Library “St.Klement of Ohrid” in Skopje. Representatives from the Bureau for Development of Education, State Examinations Center, other education stakeholders, international organizations, local NGOs, as well as local authorities, teachers, parents and community members attended the launch.
