On June 3, 2014 at 9 a.m., representatives from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and Ministry of Health of Kyrgyz Republic will take part in close out meeting of Mother and Child Health (MCH) Component of USAID funded Quality health care project at the Bishkek Park Hotel in Bishkek. The objective of the meeting is to highlight the project input in improving Mother and Child Health and Reproductive Health (RH) care in Kyrgyz Republic, and to share experience, accomplishments and challenges in this area.

In 2000, the government of Kyrgyz Republic pledged to work towards improvements in maternal and child health as part of its commitment to the Millennium Development Goals. As partners in health, USAID assisted the government in reaching its goal of significantly reducing maternal and child mortality rates by 2015. These meeting will present important accomplishments in achieving that goal.

USAID has supported MCH programs in Naryn, Jalalabad oblasts and Bishkek city. As a direct result of these programs and coordinated efforts with the Ministry of Health and development partners perinatal mortality indicator in the country has declined from 27 in 2010 to 24.9 in 2012.
