President Kufuor opened the 2014 Frontiers in Development Forum proclaiming that development took a positive turn with the Millenium Development Goals and again is at a key juncture in time to make critical changes to end extreme poverty. He highlighted both the opportunities and challenges facing developing countries. President Kufuor also joined a panel discussing power and energy in Sub-Saharan Africa and shared insights into Ghana’s experience.

If ever there was a paradigm shift in socio-economic development, I believe this is it. To exploit this unique juncture of opportunity to effect, the chief instruments to be employed must be science, technology, and innovation.
The youth in the developing world, even in the midst of poverty, and nevertheless getting some education, are now becoming restless with the limited opportunities for gainful employment. And refuse to submit to the fatalism of their elders.

Biography
John Agyekum Kufuor, President of the Republic of Ghana 2001-2009
President of the Republic of Ghana, 2001-2009. He chaired on two occasions the Economic Community of West African States (2003 and 2007) and the African Union (2007-8). Named in 2011 the joint winner of the World Food Prize with former Brazilian President Lula da Silva. Currently serves as UN Special Envoy and co-chairs the Global Panel on Climate Change and Global Panel on Agriculture and Food Systems for Nutrition. Also, he was Global Ambassador against Hunger for the UN World Food Program; chairman of the Sanitation and Water for All Partnership, Global Envoy for the Neglected Tropical Diseases Alliance; and Lead Advocate for the Partnership for Child Development.
