U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) West Africa Regional Mission conducted a two day learning workshop on September 27th- 28th in Accra, Ghana regarding land use and land cover (LULC) throughout West Africa. This second LULC regional learning workshop attracted over 125 high level technical experts and officials from seven participating countries – Ghana, the Gambia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Togo and Benin to receive and review data outlined in a picturesque atlas titled, “Landscapes of West Africa - A Window on a Changing World”.
GAME-GDA is a cooperative agreement between USAID and Dignity DTRT Limited that will provide training for 1,337 people and create 1,187 new apparel-making jobs. Around 80% of these jobs will be filled by women, many whom lack job skills and come from low-income backgrounds. A number of these women are also out-of-school adolescents. This expanded partnership will also add millions a year in new apparel exports from Ghana to the U.S.; duty and quota free under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).

More than 80 public and private stakeholders in Côte d’Ivoire’s apparel industry gathered for an indepth discussion to support the development of the country’s AGOA national strategy. The October 18-19 workshop, organized by the USAID Trade Hub, the Ministry of Trade, and the African Development Bank (AfDB), explained how the Ivorian apparel industry can reap the benefits of the preferential tariffs offered under the U.S. African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
