Accra, Ghana - Today, May 20, 2016, the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) inaugurated the new building of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Regional Leadership Center West Africa - Accra, on the GIMPA campus.

Initiated by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Peace through Development II program (PDEV II) is holding a workshop on May 12 and 13 in Ouagadougou to discuss best practices and lessons learned. Launched in 2012, PDEV II mobilized, trained, and educated thousands of young people, media professionals, organizations and members of civil society, actors in local governance, and finally ordinary citizens in Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad to fight against the rise of violent extremism and promote peace through a more inclusive development and better governance.

The United States Government, in collaboration with the Government of Togo, is boosting the capacity of researchers from six countries to generate and share the information needed by decision makers to address public health issues in West Africa. Participants from Togo, Burkina Faso, Niger, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon and Mauritania will take part in a regional workshop in Lomé, Togo, from April 25-29, 2016, on the theme “Fundamentals of Operations Research,” organized by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) regional evaluation and research project, Evidence for Development.

On April 12 and 13, the USAID West Africa Trade and Investment Hub (Trade Hub) will train coordinators from seven West African countries to assist businesses with the processes and documentation required for exporting to the United States under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA). Coordinators from AGOA Trade Resource Centers (ATRCs) in Ghana as well as Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria and Senegal will convene for training on how to deliver services in trade intelligence, export development, business promotion and trade facilitation to existing and potential exporters. Participants will also learn from best practices across the region and share experiences in supporting exporters.

More than 400 individuals representing all levels of the shea industry will gather in Accra, Ghana, from March 21 to 23 for Shea 2016: Enhancing Farm Value, an annual international conference hosted by the Global Shea Alliance with support from USAID. This year’s conference highlights the role that the shea industry plays in improving food security and climate-friendly agriculture and the growing influence of the GSA’s sustainability program, launched in 2014.
