In a technical meeting, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) presented the results of the Peru Forests project, which benefits the forestry sector, to the new National Forestry and Wildlife Service (SERFOR) team.

The Amazon rainforest, the most biodiverse region on Earth, composes more than 60 percent of Peru’s territory. In recent decades, illegal logging in Peru has intensified and threatened future of the Peruvian Amazon. USAID helps reduce deforestation in the Amazon by working with local communities to use forest resources in a more sustainable manner.
Effective government institutions that represent the interests of all citizens are essential for economic growth and prosperity. Throughout Peru, and especially in rural areas, government organizations often lack the capacity and resources to be effective. To address these issues, USAID partners with the Government of Peru, local and regional governments, and civil society to improve the quality of public services and promote transparent governance.
