On October 8th, 2013, the USAID Interethnic Integration in Education Project, together with the Municipality of Staro Nagoricane, celebrated the completion of renovations at the Hristijan Todorovski Karpos Primary School in the village of Dragomanc. The process of refurbishment, financially supported by the U.S. Government through the United States European Command (EUCOM), created a better learning environment for interethnic integration in education.

“Standing here seeing your renovated school I am proud to note that all of the efforts here were done in cooperation with your local community and local government officials.  This is yet another great example of how we are ‘Stronger Together!’“ said Major Andrew Parsons, Bilateral Affairs Officer from the Office of Defence Cooperation at the US Embassy, “We at EUCOM and USAID  recognize the importance of inter-ethnic integration in public school education for the Republic of Macedonia so that your future leaders may grow up with common values and established friendships – friendships that will foster a cooperative and integrated society.“

The USAID Interethnic Integration in Education Project is assisting 10 more communities and schools to improve their school facilities, including accessibility for students with disabilities. The project is a four-year, $5.2 milion initiative co-financed by USAID and the U.S. European Command, which will work with all relevant educational stakeholders in support of the Government of Macedonia’s efforts for ethnic integration. The project will build awareness and provide diversity training, technical assistance, and incentives to school boards, principals, teachers, and administration officials.
