HANOI, September 28, 2017 -- Today the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) launched Phase II of the Building Resilience to Natural Hazards in Central Vietnam project.   Phase II will be implemented by the American Red Cross with five Consortium members:  Vietnam Red Cross, Plan International, HelpAge International, Catholic Relief Services, and Save the Children.

With a grant of $1.54 million, Phase II is expected to benefit 37,000 people directly and 200,000 people indirectly in the four target provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, and Quang Tri by helping them be better prepared for natural disasters.  Phase II will utilize a community-based approach to help communities increase their resilience against disasters.  Consortium Partners will continue to provide support for the improvement of early warning systems, raise disaster preparedness awareness, and conduct trainings on first aid and search and rescue.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission in Vietnam recently announced funding opportunities through its Vietnam Disabilities Annual Program Statement (APS). The APS represents an invitation to Vietnamese and international non-governmental organizations to submit concept papers for programs that support a more inclusive Vietnam by expanding opportunities for persons with disabilities.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and Vietnam’s Ministry of Construction (MOC) launched a technical assistance and training program under USAID’s Vietnam Clean Energy Program to promote energy efficiency in the building sector.  The long-term objective of the program is to support Vietnam’s sustainable growth by reducing greenhouse gas emissions through the more efficient usage of electricity in the building sector.

Vietnam and the United States today jointly commissioned a thermal treatment system that will remediate 45,000 cubic meters of dioxin-contaminated soil that has been excavated and placed inside a containment structure at Danang airport. The historic Environmental Remediation of Dioxin Contamination Project is an important milestone in the bilateral relationship and for the people of Danang.

The U.S. Embassy, in cooperation with Quang Ninh People’s Committee, today launched the “Ha Long Bay Alliance,” a joint public-private effort that will bring together U.S. and Vietnamese government officials, private sector business partners, and key local and national stakeholders to help preserve and protect Ha Long Bay. The Alliance will be supported with funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
