HANOI, September 28, 2017 -- Today the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) launched Phase II of the Building Resilience to Natural Hazards in Central Vietnam project.   Phase II will be implemented by the American Red Cross with five Consortium members:  Vietnam Red Cross, Plan International, HelpAge International, Catholic Relief Services, and Save the Children.

With a grant of $1.54 million, Phase II is expected to benefit 37,000 people directly and 200,000 people indirectly in the four target provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, and Quang Tri by helping them be better prepared for natural disasters.  Phase II will utilize a community-based approach to help communities increase their resilience against disasters.  Consortium Partners will continue to provide support for the improvement of early warning systems, raise disaster preparedness awareness, and conduct trainings on first aid and search and rescue.

 The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Vietnam Women’s Union, and the Hanoi Entrepreneur Women Association (HNEW) partnered to bring together female entrepreneurs from seven Northern provinces and Hanoi to share their experiences in business management and business start-up in connection with International Women’s Day.

 The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has awarded a new grant to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to carry out a project that applies a One Health approach to reduce the threats to public health from avian and pandemic influenza (API) and other emerging infectious diseases (EIDs).

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) officially launched the Vietnam Forests and Deltas climate change project in Nam Dinh province on January 16.  The estimated $26 million project supports Vietnam’s goals for climate-resilient, low emission, sustainable development by improving land-use planning, forest and natural resource management and engaging communities in development of action plans to address climate change impacts.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) signaled its robust support for the U.S.-Vietnam Comprehensive Partnership with an event to launch its Country Development Cooperation Strategy (CDCS), which outlines the USAID’s development assistance program in Vietnam from 2014 through 2018.  At the event, USAID signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Justice to officially begin USAID’s new Governance for Inclusive Growth program.

On the occasion of the Vietnam Development Partners Forum, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is pleased to announce that its Country Development Cooperation Strategy for Vietnam was recently approved after consultations with numerous stakeholders. The strategy provides the foundation and direction for USAID's development program in Vietnam for the next five years.

On December 4-5, 2013, the United States hosted the eighth meeting of the U.S-Vietnam Joint Advisory Committee (JAC) on Agent Orange/Dioxin in Danang.  This two-day meeting allowed Vietnamese and U.S. scientific experts to exchange views and expand dialogue on issues related to Agent Orange/dioxin.  The JAC has met annually since 2006 to provide scientific advice to the governments of Vietnam and the United States on dioxin contamination cleanup and research on health issues associated with dioxin.
