TIRANA, February 15, 2013 Today, USAID/Albania Mission Director, Jim Barnhart, and the General Inspector, Mimoza Hajdarmataj, signed an agreement to support Albania’s E-Inspection system. Minister of Innovation and ICT, Genc Pollo, delivered remarks on the importance of e-governance initiatives to an open government and the role of the Central Inspectorate in increasing transparency. TIRANA-JANUARY 29, 2013 U.S. Ambassador Alexander Arvizu attended today the launch of the newly-established Association of Journalists for Justice (SHGD) and its independent online media venue for the publication of investigative stories in Albania. USAID, through its Albanian Justice Sector Strengthening Project (JuST), is working with journalists to increase reporting and to conduct investigative journalism. In forming an association, journalists will be able to advocate for and protect their rights as well as to manage an independent media source for reports.
Today, Prime Minister Sali Berisha, the Head of the EU Delegation of Albania, Ambassador Ettore Sequi, and USAID/Albania Mission Director, Jim Barnhart, delivered remarks at the opening of an international conference on the independence of financial regulators .
Through the Development Credit Authority (DCA), USAID is increasing access to credit for agriculture and agribusinesses in Albania. Through a $15 million agriculture loan agreement between USAID and two local banks, ProCredit and Banka Kombetare Tregtare (BKT), Albanian farmers and small and medium agricultural enterprises (SMEs) will be able to access credit more easily.
TIRANA, MARCH 15, 2012 With the support from the USAD’s Competitive Enterprise Development project (Rritje Albania) and Microsoft Albania, Albania held its first Microsoft Imagine Cup Competition to support technology and innovation to advance economic and social developments in Albania. USAID/Albania’s Mission Director, Joseph Williams, and Albania’s Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, delivered opening remarks at the competition.
