New independent online media venue for investigative reporting
For Immediate Release
TIRANA-JANUARY 29, 2013 U.S. Ambassador Alexander Arvizu attended today the launch of the newly-established Association of Journalists for Justice (SHGD) and its independent online media venue for the publication of investigative stories in Albania. USAID, through its Albanian Justice Sector Strengthening Project (JuST), is working with journalists to increase reporting and to conduct investigative journalism. In forming an association, journalists will be able to advocate for and protect their rights as well as to manage an independent media source for reports.
Five investigative stories are now public in the new website for investigative reporting (www.investigim.al) managed by the Association and built with USAID JuST support. The website, provides to all investigative journalists and those who have stories to tell that are well-documented, fair and accurate, an opportunity to publish them. It offers also a forum so that members of the public can provide leads, comments and through interaction, help take the conversation further.
USAID JuST, which began in October 2010, is a five-year project to increase court transparency, fairness and efficiency; bolster watchdog and anti-corruption roles of civil society organizations and media; and strengthen the legal profession and legal education in Albania.
