On September 29, 2017, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will organize a forum to discuss capacity development and enhancement of service delivery for local government bodies in the Kyrgyz Republic. Over 120 representatives of municipalities, local councils and civil society organizations from Jalal-Abad, Issyk-Kul, Osh, and Naryn provinces, national government, and international organizations will come together to share best practices and lessons learned.

The event will include presentations on innovative tools and strategies to improve local service delivery and ensure sustainability. Municipalities from Jalal-Abad and Issyk-Kul provinces will share their experiences and best practices in improving garbage collection services, establishing public-private partnerships to provide State subsidized arts and culture programming, and privatizing agricultural services.

Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic – Jonathan Stivers, Assistant Administrator of the Asia Bureau of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is visiting the Kyrgyz Republic April 4-7, 2015.  Stivers oversees USAID assistance in 32 countries in Central Asia, South Asia, East Asia, and the Pacific Islands, and manages a bureau and overseas staff of approximately 1,200 development professionals.  This is Assistant Administrator Stivers' first visit to the Kyrgyz Republic.

March 24 is World Tuberculosis Day. To commemorate this date during the entire month of March USAID is supporting events aimed at preventing the spread of tuberculosis (TB) and at informing citizens about this issue. The slogan of the month is “Together we can defeat TB!”

The new project will support better nutrition practices for mothers and young children

Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic. On March 19, 2015 the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is launching its new SPRING Project, aimed at improving maternal and child nutrition in the Kyrgyz Republic. The launch brings representatives of the Ministry of Health together with national health organizations, the Ministries of Education and Agriculture, oblasts and local government representatives, non-governmental and international organizations. The event is from 9am – 1pm at the Golden Tulip Hotel, 37 Isanova Street in Bishkek.

SPRING is a five-year project aimed at reducing malnutrition, preventing stunting, and reducing anemia in women and children. SPRING will support the Kyrgyz Republic, helping to implement internationally recommended nutrition practices and policies. The SPRING project will encourage better nutrition-related behavior, enhance diet quality and diversity, and support evidence-based nutrition policy.

Trade fair is a major forum for Light Manufacturing Entreprises

Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic. The 9th National Garment Trade Fair “Fashion Industry 2015. Manufacturers and Equipment” will take place on 11-16 March 2015 at the Kojomkul Sports Palace in Bishkek. The trade fair is hosted by the Association of Light Manufacturing Enterprises “LEGRPOM” and is supported by the USAID Women’s Leadership in Small and Medium Enterprises (WLSME) program. The fair has become a major platform where national garment companies promote new collections, customers and wholesalers negotiate agreements, and the latest trends in design and technology in garments market are discussed. Over 110 garment companies from Bishkek and other regions will exhibit their products along with the equipment providers from Germany, the software providers from Ukraine and importers of fabrics from India and packaging products from Russia, China and Europe.

The USAID Business Growth Initiative (BGI) would like to invite media representatives to a presentation of its Tourism Destination Management Program, with the participation of representatives of the private sector, sector associations and government authorities.  The presentation will take place on February 25, 2015, at 13:30 pm, in the Jannat Regency Hotel, located at Aaly Tokombaev Street 21/2, Bishkek.

The objective of the event is to describe the Program to interested stakeholders, in which BGI will solicit applications from consortia of tourism organizations, formed voluntarily to develop destination management proposals to enhance tourism locations in Kyrgyzstan.  The BGI team will then establish a partnership with winning consortia based on the creativity and feasibility of ideas, the demonstrated commitment of group members, and the willingness to work together to build more attractive and service-oriented tourist destinations.  Selected groups will receive grant funding and technical assistance to support the implementation of their destination management plans. The plans are expected to generate greater income for local destinations as well as contribute to the development of the Kyrgyz tourism sector as a whole.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) launches a new USAID Agro Horizon Project to boost the growth of diversified and equitable agricultural sector in the Kyrgyz Republic. The project will be launched at a two-day event that will bring together the representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Governors of Osh, Batken, Jalalabad, and Naryn oblasts, representatives of local government, agricultural associations, entrepreneurs, micro credit companies, and international organizations. The event will be held February 24 – 25, 2015 at the Classic Hotel, 143 Aliyev Street, Osh, Kyrgyzstan.

To improve reading skills and boost interest in reading among primary school students, the USAID “Reading Together" Project will hold a ten-day reading festival with the City Board of Education February 20 to March 4, 2015 at educational complex № 66 in Bishkek (Vostok-5B, Mambetova St.).  Representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, the City Department of Education, and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will take part in the events.

The AIDS Foundation East-West (AFEW) in the Kyrgyz Republic will hold a workshop on February 10-13, 2015 for 20 social workers from prisons and non-governmental organizations working in HIV prevention in detainment settings and post-release. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is financing the workshop under the HIV React Project.

On December 23, 2014, the State Tax Service of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic will open a new Citizen Service Center at Dordoi market in Bishkek. The newly refurbished facility will help improve customer service for more than 7000 businesses as well as traders working at the market.
