 In line with the worldwide goal of ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030, government officials from ECOWAS member states committed to providing comprehensive health services for key populations in West Africa. They finalized a declaration of their commitment at an April 10, 2015, meeting hosted by the Government of Senegal and organized by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in collaboration with the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and the West Africa Health Organization.

More than 500 individuals representing every aspect of the shea industry are gathered in Ouagadougou for Shea 2015: A Promising Future, the annual conference of the Global Shea Alliance, supported by USAID. From March 23 to 25, 2015, they will share information on new initiatives to improve shea tree populations, quality standards and practices, and women’s empowerment.

The American people, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), today opened an African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) Trade Resource Center in Accra in partnership with the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry.  The aim of the Center, one of 15 across West Africa, is to increase the value of exports from the region by guiding businesses to access regional and global markets for agricultural and value-added trade.  The end result, say organizers, will be increased exports.  This, in turn, will spur greater competitiveness, lead to more jobs, and be a a powerful foundation for broad-based economic growth.

The U.S. Government, acting through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in partnership with the Johns Hopkins University Center for AIDS Research, the Foundation for AIDS Research, and the National Institutes of Health, announces the release of a special issue of the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes (JAIDS) titled “HIV Risks and Vulnerabilities among Key Populations in West and Central Africa—Evidence to Inform HIV Prevention, Treatment, and Care.”

Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) signed an agreement under which USAID will support WANEP’s efforts to prevent election violence in five countries in West Africa through the strengthening of national conflict early warning systems.
