Vietnam prepares for Trade Facilitation Agreement to go into Effect

Friday, December 2, 2016

In collaboration with the General Department of Vietnam Customs (GDVC), USAID’s Governance for Inclusive Growth (GIG) program conducted a workshop, “Developing an Action Plan for Implementation of Category B and C Commitments under the World Trade Organization (WTO) Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA),” in Hanoi from November 29 to December 1.  This workshop will help Vietnam develop an action plan to implement its remaining commitments to the TFA over the next few years.  The workshop was attended by 80 government officials representing both central and local customs authorities as well as various line ministries. The TFA is expected to come into effect in early 2017 once two-thirds of WTO members worldwide ratify the agreement. The TFA will expedite the movement, release, and clearance of goods, and it will enhance effective cooperation among customs and other relevant border agencies on trade facilitation as well as customs compliance.
