As the  U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)  transitions out of providing HIV prevention commodities in Vietnam, USAID is supporting the development of the private sector condom market.  According to a survey conducted by USAID's Healthy Markets project, 48% of businesses that sell condoms are negatively impacted by free condom distribution. The objective of this survey was to identify factors that influence the ability of small organizations to sell condoms sustainably as well as help improve distribution of free condoms in a more targeted way.  So What? This research will help the Vietnamese Government to identify how to best target the distribution of free condoms so that they reach the poorest populations, while at the same time not damaging the sustainability of the condom market.
