USAID Project Enables Women Engineers to be Awarded Start-up Support

The USAID Building University-Industry Learning and Development through Innovation and Technology (BUILD-IT) project’s Women Engineering Projects In Community Service (WEPICS) 2017 Competition wrapped up on June 25th in Danang. This initiative, which nurtures innovation and entrepreneurship to support sustainable development of the local community, saw 49 women-led innovation teams compete and present their projects applying Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) solutions to community problems. The two winning projects, “Equipment to Support Study for the Blind” and “Reuse Waste Cotton to Grow Mushrooms and Microbiological Fertilizer” will receive start-up support from local enterprises. So what: The WEPICS Competition provides a platform to develop women's leadership in STEM fields and brings new perspectives on solutions to socioeconomic development issues in Vietnam.
