Mushrooms produced in Thanh Hoa.
USAID/VFD

The USAID-funded Vietnam Forests and Deltas Program (VFD) has developed and tested livelihood models to assist with food security and increasing incomes for farmers.  To improve the incomes of poor women while supporting low emission and green growth, VFD helped the Thanh Hoa Women’s Union to initiate women-led mushroom cooperatives and establish market links for mushroom products. As a result of the support, the Women’s Union organized technical training courses, study visits, and acquired the necessary equipment for the cooperative groups. Now, after six months of operation, participating households have  successfully produced, harvested, and sold their mushrooms. The Thanh Hoa Women’s Union will extend this successful model to other communes and districts. The project has also assisted in climate smart rice production, beekeeping, medicinal plant cultivation models.
