Improved Provincial Planning for Forestry and Climate Change

Friday, November 4, 2016

With support from the USAID Vietnam Forests and Deltas program, Quang Binh, Thanh Hoa, and Nghe An are the first provinces in Vietnam to develop Provincial REDD+ Action Plans (PRAPs). The Provincial People’s Committees of these provinces have recently approved their respective new PRAPs, which serve as models for how provinces can manage their forests to improve the quality of people’s lives, address the challenges of climate change, and take advantage of new international financing opportunities for climate change activities. These three provinces also serve as part of the World Bank’s Forest Carbon Partnership Facility’s  “Sustainable Management of Forests through Low Emissions Development Planning for Green Growth in the North Central Agro-Ecological Region” Emissions Reduction Program, which has the potential to receive approximately $40 million in World Bank funding for improved forest management in six provinces in north-central Vietnam.
