In August, more than 1,500 primary school students from 73 schools of Naryn, Issyk-Kul, Talas, Osh, and Batken oblasts will take part in summer reading camps organized by USAID in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science. The main goal of the camps is to refresh the knowledge gained during the school year through engaging activities that help children improve their reading skills.
USAID partners with the Kyrgyz Republic to overcome the challenges of diagnosing and managing childhood and adolescent tuberculosis (TB). While many advances have been made in a fight against adult TB, children and adolescents remain very vulnerable to TB and significant challenges remain.
Representatives of 25 tourism businesses and museums from across the Kyrgyz Republic gathered in Bishkek on July 12 to highlight the rich heritage of museums throughout the country and to discuss the important role these museums can play in the tourist industry. The Center for Museum Initiatives organized the event in partnership with the United States through USAID’s Business Growth Initiative (BGI).
The Aravan Agro Service more than doubled its potato yield and profits in 2016 by partnering with the United States through the USAID Agro Horizon project. Moving to early potato production with high quality seeds and training on effective sales and marketing techniques allowed this cooperative of 217 farmers to increase production from 10 to 25 tons per hectare and sell their produce at significantly higher prices.
On June 9, major German retailer KiK met with Kyrgyz apparel companies to discuss opportunities with European buyers. The meeting was part of the Apparel Innovation Club supported by the United States through USAID’s Business Growth Initiative to strengthen the Kyrgyz textile industry.
