The city of Tafileh, with the support of USAID, today opened its first vocational training institute (VTI) for hospitality and tourism. The institute will prepare Tafileh’s youth with the career skills to meet the anticipated industry growth and development. According to the Jordanian Tourism Strategy, 25,000 trained employees will be required to accommodate the industry’s growth nationwide over the next four years.

USAID awarded a total of $880,000 to 28 charitable and cooperative organizations at a granting ceremony in Irbid today. The funds will allow the installation of 44 rainwater-harvesting cisterns and other community-based water projects in northern Jordan.

A group of Jordanian professionals living abroad, including Silicon Valley executives, gathered for the first time yesterday as part of the Jordanian Diaspora Network. This is an effort to support entrepreneurship and market access for their compatriots in Jordan. The Network is supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The USAID Jordan Competitiveness Program (JCP) and Intel Corporation launched a three year public-private partnership today to support education and entrepreneurship in Jordan’s science and technology sector. The project aims to accelerate economic growth, create jobs, and maximize Jordan’s competitiveness in the global marketplace by training the next generation of information and communications technology (ICT) graduates.
