Microsoft Jordan and the USAID Jordan Competitiveness Program (USAID JCP) honored six teams of young Jordanian programmers today for the innovative tech solutions they developed while participating in the Microsoft Academic Accelerator Program.

U.S. and Jordanian officials signed grant documents totaling $429.7 million at a ceremony in Amman today. The grants were signed by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director Jim Barnhart at the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation. U.S. Ambassador Alice G. Wells also attended the ceremony.

The USAID Jordan Local Enterprise Support Project (LENS) signed an agreement today with the Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC) to support the competitiveness and sustainability of micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in Jordan’s land transport sector. The partnership will provide hundreds of businesses with the training and support necessary to meet new regulations passed by the LTRC in 2014, mandating that commercial vehicle drivers acquire new certification and safety tools to guarantee international safety standards.

The Ministry of Education (MoE) and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) launched a state of the art tourism and hospitality training center at Al Imam Malek Jabal Al Qusoor Public Secondary School today. The training center in East Amman provides vocational education to Jordanian students who plan to work in the tourism and hospitality sector, and is a model for other schools with the hospitality stream.

The Strengthening Health Outcomes through the Private Sector Activity (SHOPS) celebrated the project’s completion today at Al Hussein Cultural Center after five successful years expanding the availability, quality and use of family planning services. The event was attended by HE Dr. Sawsan Al Majali, Secretary General of the Higher Population Council, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Health and the public and private health sectors.
