Under the patronage of Minister of Water and Irrigation Dr. Hazem Al-Nasser, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Yarmouk Water Company inaugurated the $4.6 million rehabilitation of the Sumaya Pump Station and adjoining water network.

Since 2005, the International Republican Institute’s (IRI) program in Jordan has focused on connecting citizens and government by promoting democratic governance and strong political parties. IRI grassroots-focused activities encourage democratic participation on the national and local levels by engaging civil society, particularly women and youth, and preparing political parties and candidates for elections.

The USAID Civic Initiatives Support Program (USAID CIS) aims at cultivating a strong and vibrant civil society in Jordan through supporting a broad range of civic initiatives. Working at both national and local levels, it supports civic initiatives and advocacy responding to common interests; strengthens the organizational capacity of civil society organizations; and promotes Government of Jordan-civil society collaboration efforts to address reform and development challenges.

The USAID Jordan Workforce Development (WFD) Project, in cooperation with the Al Hassan Industrial Zone Investors Association and the Irbid Chamber of Industry in Ramtha, launched an initiative today to encourage local community members to work in industrial occupations. The initiative, entitled “Proud to Be a Craftsman” aims to increase employment opportunities for youth and women in the private sector.
