Malaria is endemic throughout Côte d’Ivoire and transmission occurs year-round, with peaks during the rainy season. It is a major public health problem for the approximately 23 million residents. The disease is responsible for approximately 2.3 million presumed and confirmed cases each year in children under five years old. Based on the most recent survey conducted in 2016, nearly half of all Ivoirian children under the age of five are infected. Under the current national malaria strategic plan, the country aims to reduce malaria-related mortality to less than one death per 100,000 inhabitants and reduce the number of malaria cases by 75 percent.
