Human trafficking is a global human rights challenge. It preys upon the vulnerable, breaks down rule of law, and corrupts global commerce. The U.S. Government, through USAID, the Department of State and other agencies, supports all four strategic pillars of counter-trafficking response: prevention, protection, prosecution, and partnership. In Cambodia, we have been working on these issues closely with the Government of Cambodia for more than a decade.
The U.S. government, through the U.S.Agency for Internation Development (USAID) has been providing support to Population Services International (PSI) and their local partner, Population Services Khmer (PSK) to support the Royal Government of Cambodia to reduce child mortality due to acute respiratory infection (ARI)/pneumonia and diarrhea.
As a friend of Cambodia, the U.S. government is committed to supporting work in transitional justice and peace and reconciliation. Through USAID, we provide financial support to TPO and other organizations working in the transitional justice sector. As USAID’s partner for the Truth, Reconciliation and Healing Towards a Shared Future project, TPO works directly with former Khmer Rouge members and with the survivors of the regime. Their extraordinary efforts have helped Cambodian people cope with trauma and learn how to live peacefully together in the same communities regardless if one was a former Khmer Rouge member or a survivor of the Khmer Rouge regime. Many of those who suffered under the Khmer Rouge have been able to move forward with their lives.
As Cambodia moves towards virtual elimination of HIV, it is ever more important to identify what elements of the national program are producing the desired results and which elements require adjustment. The importance of evaluating innovative approaches to programming and finding efficiencies is heightened. And this is where research and evaluation play critical roles.
The USAID HIV Innovate and Evaluate Project aims to provide relevant information to Cambodia's decision-makers at the policy, implementation, and community levels. This information will inform, interventions relevant to key populations around such priorities as HIV prevention and testing, new case finding, links to HIV care and treatment, and ART adherence among key populations.
The U.S. government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), announced a new award to Transcultural Psychosocial Organization Cambodia (TPO) to provide innovative mental health therapies and healing methods for individuals and communities in 15 provinces who continue to face trauma from their experiences during the Khmer Rouge regime. The work will be carried out in collaboration with the Kdei Karuna Organization.
