Our assistance can mean the difference between life and death for millions of people every year.

Countries

We work around the world to help those in need after crises strike. Last fiscal year alone, USAID responded to 52 disasters in 52 countries:

  • When the ongoing crisis in Syria caused millions of people to flee the violence, USAID provided foodemergency medical care, and relief supplies to those forced to leave their homes behind.
  • When violence uprooted communities in YemenSouth SudanLake Chad BasinIraq, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, USAID helped millions of people get access to safe drinking water, built sanitation facilities to reduce the threat of disease, and helped transport critical emergency supplies to those in need.
  • When a magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit Ecuador, USAID deployed a team of disaster experts to respond to immediate humanitarian needs, including the provision of safe drinking water, emergency shelter, improved sanitation, and hygiene kits. USAID also airlifted 80 tons of emergency relief supplies to help up to 50,000 people affected by the earthquake.
