Vietnam’s Senior Officials Learn from U.S. Experiences Implementing Free Trade Commitments

A group of 11 senior officials from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Justice have just completed a study tour to several U.S. agencies (including the U.S. Trade Representative Office) and private groups to learn first-hand from the U.S. Government’s experiences implementing free trade commitments and other legal and regulatory reforms. This study was sponsored by the USAID Governance for Inclusive Growth (GIG) program and presented an opportunity to learn about effective government inter-agency coordination for implementing free trade agreements, with a focus on for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement. The study mission supported the Government of Vietnam’s efforts to improve its policy-making and implementation processes in preparation for the TPP agreement.
