Today, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), within the framework of its Governance Strengthening Project, held a presentation on “International Practice in the Management of Electronic Documents” in cooperation with the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan.
On June 1, Junior Achievement Worldwide opened a three-day workshop aimed at improving standards and customer service in Turkmenistan’s tourism and hospitality industry. With funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and Chevron Nebitgaz B.V. Turkmenistan, the workshop discussed international standards in the hospitality industry with representatives from across a broad spectrum of Turkmenistan’s government, as well as private entrepreneurs.
Around the world, people are embracing technology as a tool for improved teaching and learning, and Turkmenistan is no exception to this trend. However, the United Nations estimates that less than 10 percent of the total Turkmen population has Internet or a computer available at home. With the introduction of the government’s e-Governance strategy in 2010, government record-keeping, public sector work environments, and health care systems are quickly moving to digital and computer platforms.
It's been a busy spring for USAID. We're actively engaging Turkmenistan in their WTO accession, strengthening the carpet export industry across Central Asia, and are moving forward on the prevention, treatment, and care of tuberculosis.
