On March 14, 2014 Youth Engagement to Promote Stability (YEPS), implemented by Search for Common Ground (SFCG), managed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and funded through the U.S. State Departments Security and Stabilization Program, will celebrate the launch of second cycle of the Radio Drama series , Karau Dikur ba Dame (‘Buffalo Horn for Peace’).
USAID's community-oriented policing project HAKOHAK now reaches eight districts in Timor-Leste, twice as many districts as last year. The project expansion has just finished with a special ceremony in Ainaro District at the end of January. As in the other focus districts, the project team and the National Police of Timor-Leste (PNTL) coordinate with district and community leaders to inaugurate the District Steering Committee and establish 10 new Community Police Councils (CPCs) to link communities with the police to reduce crime and conflict.
At a special ceremony today, Timor-Leste Vice Prime Minister Fernando "La Sama" de Araujo joined U.S. Embassy Chargé d'Affaires Scott Ticknor and newly arrived USAID Director John Seong to launch USAID's new Ba Distrito project. Ba Distrito means "To the Districts" in Tetun and the project will work closely with local government, NGOs, and communities to help improve local governance and expand access to justice over the next four years.
