BELGRADE – On September 19, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), a U.S. government agency, and the High Court Council (HCC) of Serbia celebrated the achievements of USAID’s “Institutional Strengthening of the High Court Council” activity—a $500,000 project to support Serbia’s judicial reform efforts.

“USAID’s support to the High Court Council in its effort to reform the judiciary has moved Serbia one step closer towards realizing the goals outlined in the Action Plan of the National Judicial Reform Strategy 2013-2018,” said Dragomir Milivojević, the President of the High Court Council.

“The High Court Council plays a central role in establishing an effective judiciary that serves the needs of the Serbian people,” said USAID Mission Director Azza El-Abd. “The United States has partnered with Serbia to strengthening the judiciary for more than a decade – ours is a longstanding partnership.”

Belgrade, October 2013 – Civic Initiatives and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) have launched a 15-month project, $248,800 project to improve the status of youth and reduce their marginalization in south and southwest Serbia. 

The "Empowered Youth for Positive Changes in South Serbia and Sandzak" campaign will build the capacity of young people, youth groups and civil society organizations and increase the employability and activism of youths in the target regions.

Belgrade, October 2013 – The Regional Development Agency of Sandžak (SEDA) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) have launched a nine-month, $65,000 project to increase the quality, value and market position of milk and cheese products from the Pešter Highlands. 

The "Support of Cheese Production in the Sandžak Region" project is supporting dairy producers from the Pešter Highlands to improve their products' market position and to increase the value of their products.

Five Municipalities Sign Memorandum of Understanding for the "Divac Youth Fund" Project

Belgrade, October 2013 – The "Divac Youth Fund," a new project launched by the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation, was unveiled today at a signing of a Memorandum of Understanding at the Belgrade Media Center.

The project will establish funds for youth projects in the five municipalities of Prijepolje, Vladičin Han, Vlasotince, Vršac and Kanjiža.  Representatives from the municipalities signed the memorandum after being chosen following preliminary talks with a dozen municipalities.

Program for Jobless Youth to Develop Agribusinesses Launched by Zrenjanin, Kinkinda, and Novi Becej

Zrenjanin, September 2013 – The City of Zrenjanin and the Municipalities of Kikinda and Novi Becej today launched a program to help unemployed youth grow highly profitable vegetable crops.  The "Agriculture Entrepreneurship Incubators for Youth" project will teach participants to grow vegetables in greenhouses and in open fields. 

2013 Mladgrad Award Honors Individuals, Organizations and Municipalities for Improving the Status of Youth

Belgrade, August 2013 The MLADGRAD 2013 Award was presented by Civic Initiatives today to the municipalities of Pirot and Priboj, Youth.rs website founder and Obrenovac activist Duško Krstić.

Certificates of Appreciation were awarded to the municipalities of Ivanjica and Raška, the Bečej Youth Association, and the Eureka Kruševac Association.  A special prize for contributions to improving the position of marginalized youth was presented to the Belgrade Municipality of Zvedzdara and the Pirot E Publika Association.
