The project constructs on­farm irrigation system on 15,500 acres of land downstream from the Satpara Dam in Gilgit­ Baltistan to provide better supply of irrigation water and therefore increase the availability of fodder and productivity of the region's high­value fruit and vegetable crops.

The program promotes evidence­based discussions and decision making related to economic policies. To increase the availability of scientific evidence for policy decisions, the program sponsors research studies in four key areas: agricultural production; water management and irrigation; macroeconomics, markets, and trade; and poverty dynamics and social safety nets.

The project helps communities and individual farmers to increase the production, sales, and revenues for crops and livestock. Activities include introduction of new technologies and practices, improved management approaches, new varieties of crops and livestock, as well as better water management techniques.

The Merit and Needs-Based Scholarship Program (MNBSP) provides full-tuition scholarships and stipends to talented yet economically disadvantaged Pakistani youth to earn a bachelor's or master's degree at 31 partner universities.

The project seeks to provide flood control and round­ the­ year supply of irrigation water in the Tank and Dera Ismail Khan (D.I.Khan) districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Through this project, USAID funds construction of an irrigation and drainage system downstream from the Gomal Zam Dam situated in South Waziristan.
