Expoamazonica, the largest fair in the Peruvian Amazon, manage to mobilize more than S/. 35 million soles, said the Regional Governor of Madre de Dios, Luis Otsuka Salazar, at the closing ceremony last August 16th.
According to the governor Otsuka, the business rountable was attended by 32 buyers, 130 producers, there were 600 business meetings and at the end there were closing sales of 20 million soles in timber, Brazilian Nuts and cocoa.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) was present in Expoamazonica 2015 through its partners:
- Rainforest Alliance with Brazilian Nuts growers, artisans and tour operators.
- AIDER discussed topics about the transformation of agro-industrial products and handicrafts.
- The Alliance Cacao Peru participated in conferences on sustainable investment models and brought a delegation of cocoa farmers from Ucayali.
- The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) invited experts from the Association for the Amazon Basin´s Conservation (ACCA), who participated in the roundtables for sustainable conservation of the Amazon.
- The World Wildlife Fund WWF brought producers from ECOPURUS, an indigenous Amazonian business venture that seeks the forest conservation in Purus, and also participated in the panel discussion on forests and sustainable economic development.
This fifth edition of Expoamazonica took place in the region of Madre de Dios from August 13th to 16th and next year it will take place in the region of Huanuco.
