March 15, 2017 - Today’s event at Hotel Alexander Palace in Skopje marks the achievements and joint efforts in the last five years of the USAID Interethnic Integration in Education Program (IIEP) in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science, educational institutions, municipalities, schools and partners. The objective of this program was to integrate children of various ethnic backgrounds through education and other activities. IIEP involved schools, teachers, children and parents, local leaders, and entire communities in developing interethnic relationships and building the foundation for a better future. In his remarks, Mr. James Stein, Mission Director of the USAID Macedonia, noted that “For many years, USAID has worked closely with the Government of Macedonia, municipal leaders, and other partners to improve access to a quality education for all of Macedonia’s learners. We have made great progress in this effort.

Skopje  - Today, the Municipality of Tetovo established a Local Economic and Social Council (LESC) with support from the USAID Youth Employability Skills (YES) Network project.  The LESC will serve as an advisory and consultative body to the municipality on issues such as employment of youth and the link between labor market needs as defined by employers and the skills developed by young Macedonians during their formal education.

Skopje - Today, the USAID Interethnic Integration in Education Project team signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the ten schools the project has selected for refurbishment.  These schools successfully demonstrated enthusiasm and readiness to create better learning environments for interethnic integration, as well as eagerness to mobilize their communities to participate in renovation efforts.  The project will assist these ten communities to improve their school facilities, including accessibility for students with disabilities.

Skopje - After five years, the USAID Competitiveness Project has completed its activities after successfully helping over 500 local companies to enhance their competitiveness on global markets by accessing external finance, identifying new buyers and export orders, expanding operations, and training and hiring new qualified employees.

Skopje - Today, USAID launched its new Adaptation to Climate Change in Agriculture project which will promote adaptive agricultural practices and raise awareness of the forthcoming challenges of climate change and the need for joint, community level responses.  Adaptation to Climate Change in Agriculture will be implemented by the Rural Development Network (RDN).

Skopje - Today at the American Corner in Struga, USAID opened a traveling photo exhibition, entitled USAID – Changing Lives, in celebration of USAID’s 50th anniversary globally and its 18th year as Macedonia’s partner in development.  To mark the occasion, 18 photographs were selected for exhibition through a contest on the USAID Macedonia Facebook page during December, 2011.

Skopje - Today at the American Corner in Bitola, USAID opened a traveling photo exhibition, entitled USAID – Changing Lives, in celebration of USAID’s 50th anniversary globally and its 18th year as Macedonia’s partner in development.  To mark the occasion, 18 photographs were selected for exhibition through a contest on the USAID Macedonia Facebook page during December, 2011.  Popular comedian Marjan Georgievski from Bitola was the special guest star featured at this event with a performance on the topic “Stereotypes” and a presentation about the history of stand-up comedy.

Skopje - Today, the US Ambassador Paul Wohlers visited the USAID Business without Borders project, implemented by the Business Start-up Centre (BSC) in Bitola.  USAID awarded U.S. $1.3 million to the BSC for this three-year project that works to accelerate economic growth in southern Macedonia by assisting small and medium enterprises.

Skopje - Today, the USAID Business without Borders project shared its first-year successes in helping to create jobs, start new businesses and improve the competitiveness of existing enterprises in the Pelagonia region.  The project, implemented by the Foundation Business Start-up Center - Bitola (BSC - Bitola), is a three-year effort to accelerate economic growth in southern Macedonia by assisting micro and small enterprises.
