Women's workforce participation in Kosovo is 18 percent, the lowest in the region, according to a recent report on “Women in the Workforce.” The report was presented on September 6th by the Riinvest Institute, based on the findings from a survey of 600 women on their working conditions, work-life balance, parental leave issues, and other barriers that women in Kosovo face in the work place and job market. The findings will help inform the economic agenda that the Women’s Economic Forum will use to lobby the Government through the National Economic Development Council.

Too often political parties in Kosovo have trouble increasing the role and numbers of women in their party structures.  The Women’s Leadership Academy, supported by USAID and NDI, offers intensive training sessions on policy development and campaign communication skills to help develop future women political leaders.

Raspberry production in Kosovo is booming, and the introduction of new varieties from USAID’s agriculture programs has significantly extended the growing season.  New methods of growing, handling, packaging, and marketing have also increased crop yields, quality, market-reach, and price.  On August 14th, Ambassador Delawie and his team were on hand at a Ferizaj raspberry orchard to celebrate this year’s successful raspberry crop, to meet with local farmers, and to join in the harvest.  The orchard belonged to Trimor Hyseni, a 27-year-old university graduate in economics and agric
