USAID awarded a grant to KUSCCO as part of an open competition for innovative solutions to overcome distribution and financing bottlenecks in the Kenyan cook stove sector, two key constraints to growth noted in recent market assessments by Winrock and the Global Alliance for Clean Cook stoves.  KUSCCO supports a network of 1,350 member SACCOs that will provide credit to their individual members seeking to purchase cook stoves.

April 1, Mombasa – U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Education Specialist Irene Muriuki joined the County Education Director for Mombasa County, today for the Coast roll out of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology’s revised Education Sector Policy on HIV/AIDS.

U.S. Ambassador to Kenya Robert F. Godec joined the Cabinet Secretary of Kenya’s Ministry of Health James Macharia to mark World Tuberculosis Day by launching the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) TB Accelerated Response and Care activity.  The U.S. Government works with the Government of Kenya and local partners to prevent and control tuberculosis (TB) in Kenya.  USAID is investing Ksh 3.5 billion ($38M) in the TB Accelerated Response and Care activity to expand access to quality TB services in all 47 Kenyan counties and for all forms of TB.

USAID Assistant Administrator for Global Health, Dr. Ariel Pablos- Méndez handed over Ksh129 million in maternal and child health commodities to Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Health, James Macharia.  Prior to the handover ceremony, Dr. Pablos-Méndez toured the Maai Mahiu primary health care facility in Longonot village.  Maai Mahiu provides outpatient services and basic emergency obstetric care.
