USAID, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the General Electric (GE) Foundation, and St. Boniface Haitian Foundation signed a partnership to train Haitian biomedical engineering technicians to fix and maintain life-saving equipment through Reparation Pou Amelyore Ekipman Medikal, or the REPARE project. Partners in Health/Zanmi Lasante and the Ministry of Health will participate in the program.
USAID Haiti announced the launching of Konbit —a five-year Cooperative Agreement— recently awarded to Papyrus S.A. and its three partners—Ayiti Nexus, Steve Kroll and Associates, and Tetra Tech under USAID’s Local Solutions program to strengthen Haitian civil society organizations and service providers.
The US Government is actively intervening to mitigate the impact of the ongoing drought induced by a prolonged El Niño event, and, in fact, has been working since the Haitian Government’s CNSA issued an alert and appeal in October 2015. At stake is food security and nutrition for an estimated 1.5 million Haitians.
As part of a “Rice Day” event in Haiti’s northeast, more than 150 Haitian farmers received certificates signaling their ‘graduation’ from the USAID AVANSE Farmer Field School training. Rice Day festivities marked the harvest of rice cultivated through the new System of Rice Intensification (SRI) method introduced by AVANSE, and celebrated the revivification of rice cultivation in Haiti.
