The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through the Pastoralist Areas Resilience Improvement through Market Expansion (PRIME) activity, provided a $1.5 million grant to JESH Plc. The grant leveraged private sector investment to build the first ever international-standard abattoir and livestock fattening facility in the Somali Region. JESH is located in Faafan village, approximately 40km west of Jigjiga in the Ethiopian Somali Regional State, which is home to the largest animal population in Ethiopia.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) today transitioned hundreds of undertakings of its Agribusiness Market Development activity to partners and government agencies to assure the sustainability and continuation of the work achieved. “The next five years will prove Ethiopia can meet its own food needs while impressing the world with high quality products,” said USAID Mission Director Dennis Weller.

The USAID activity will use multiple media to help families make better health choices.

Following the opening of the first International Social and Behavior Change Communication Summit, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health jointly inaugurated a new activity “Communication for Health” designed to strengthen evidence-based health communication in Ethiopia. This USAID activity will support the Ethiopian health sector to guide families in making better health choices in the areas of reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health; malaria; tuberculosis; water, sanitation and hygiene; prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV; and nutrition.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia -  The U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia, along with officials from the Government of Ethiopia, took part today in the official launch of new episodes of the popular children’s television and radio series Tsehai Loves Learning. Tsehai Loves Learning - Healthy Whiz Kids is a new effort of Whiz Kids Workshop that aims to help reduce child mortality in Ethiopia through health literacy among children and parents. The episodes will air nationally on the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation’s television and radio stations beginning 6 February 2016 and continuing every Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
