Energy efficiency offers a variety of benefits across economic sectors. By decreasing the demand for electricity, efficiency can reduce the amount of new generation required to meet the needs of a growing city, produce savings that can buy down the cost of rooftop solar, and lower the transmission and distribution infrastructure needed to extend the grid and provide energy access. The diversity of approaches, variety of solutions and scale of benefits associated with energy efficiency is demonstrated through the following case studies. While the Bangladesh case study provides a path toward identifying and financing efficiency in the industrial sector, the Vietnam case study addresses how to improve implementation of energy efficiency through building codes. Finally, the Indonesia case study demonstrates how modeling, data and benchmarking can be used to assess the potential for energy efficiency in the hotel sector.
