“Women have the potential to have a tremendous impact on Egypt’s economic development,” said United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Deputy Mission Director Rebecca Latorraca as she opened in Alexandria today the first “Startup Weekend for Women.”  “This event is the first of its kind in Egypt,” Latorraca said, “and USAID is proud to support it.”

 Today, the U.S. and Egypt opened a symposium which highlights the plans and accomplishments of current grantees of the U.S.-Egypt Science and Technology Joint Fund.  This two-day event provides an opportunity for grantees to meet other program participants, discuss research plans, and present outcomes of past collaborative scientific research projects.

Today, scholarship recipients from the U.S.-Egypt Higher Education Initiative hosted a workshop to promote career exploration among Egyptian youth as a way to enhance connections to the labor market.  The scholarship program is supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and provides assistance for talented Egyptian students to earn degrees from Egyptian private universities in fields important for economic growth.
