Aswan – Egyptian and U.S. government officials today inaugurated two web-enabled Citizen Service Centers in Aswan governorate. These one-stop shops for government services were developed through cooperation between the Aswan Governorate; the Ministry of Planning, Monitoring, and Administrative Reform; the Ministry of Local Development; and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
“Citizen Service Centers in Edfu, Daraw, and Aswan City are the first in Egypt where citizens can request government services through a new, modern, web-enabled system,” said USAID Mission Director Sherry F. Carlin. “This represents an important step in meeting citizens’ needs.”
Cairo – Minister of Antiquities Dr. Khaled El Anany and Brinton Bohling of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) celebrated the graduation of 24 Ministry of Antiquities’ employees today from the USAID-funded Memphis Site and Community Development Field School. The graduation ceremony caps off an intensive four-month training program for Ministry inspectors to strengthen their professional skills in managing Egypt’s antiquities.
“We are honored to support the stewards of Egypt’s priceless heritage sites –sites like Mit Rahina in Egypt’s first capital, Memphis,” said USAID/Egypt Economic Growth Director Brinton Bohling. “We hope the Memphis Walking Trail will be one of the new destinations on each visitor’s itinerary.”
Port Said, Egypt – The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), along with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education (MOETE), launched the first Department of Logistics in two Egyptian schools. The new specialization, incorporated in technical schools in Ismailia and Port-Said, is aimed to promote job opportunities and sustainable economic development.
“A robust cadre of young, skilled workers will be at the heart of Egypt’s economic revival,” said USAID Acting Mission Director Rebecca Latorraca. “Technical school graduates who acquire and maintain relevant skills will be among the best prepared to meet employer demands, and will seize economic opportunities, and strengthen the economic foundation of Egypt.”
CAIRO – Marking the start of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2016, more than 150 investors, analysts, and businessmen and -women gathered today in Cairo to explore opportunities to promote small- and medium-sized enterprise development and to promote Egyptian entrepreneurship.
“Global Entrepreneurship Week celebrates the role of entrepreneurship and small businesses in advancing economic development,” said Brinton Bohling of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). “Entrepreneurs in Egypt are creative and talented, and they can help build a competitive and sustainable economy for all Egyptians.” Global Entrepreneurship Week runs from November 14 – 20 and seeks to inspire people throughout the world to explore their potential as entrepreneurs.
The United States Embassy in Egypt announced today that is it providing $50,000 to the Egyptian Red Crescent to help the people affected by recent flooding in Egypt. The humanitarian assistance funding announced today will allow the Red Crescent to provide critical supplies for families in need.
