For Immediate Release
From October 30th to November 2nd, Fishing with 3GNets project partners – Qualcomm, USAID Municipality of Cabralia and Telefonica Vivo - had the pleasure of hosting in Brazil, 3 Colombians from which included a coordinator from CINTEL and two fishermen leaders from La Boquilla. The purpose of the trip was for the Colombians to learn best practices from the Brazilians participating in the Fishing with 3G project.
The Fishing with 3G Nets replication project from Brazil to La Boquilla in Colombia known as SAVALO, is progressing well! Approximately 40 fishermen are receiving IT and mobile technology training and 15 tablets have been acquired. The fishermen mobile applications are being translated from Portuguese to Spanish for them to localize and use. The project will be publically announced at the next ANDICOM Conference in August 2014, where all project partners will be recognized. ANDICOM is the largest international IT conference in the region and this year was attended by more than 1,500 federal and local level policy makers, IT leaders, and operators from around the world.
Furthermore, as a second phase of the SAVALO project, Qualcomm and CINTEL are considering the expansion of this project to the Pacific Coast with contributions from Telefónica Colombia Foundation. Qualcomm is working with USAID/Colombia in finding ways to expand and strengthen the partnership initiated in Brazil.
