Brazil is working with the United States to conserve its biodiversity through forest fire management and firefighting.

With USAID support, the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and Brazil'sAliança da Terra (Earth Alliance), a organization, from the state of Mato Grosso, provided collaborative training sessions in March and April of 2013 in the states of Mato Grosso and Goias to standardize instruction on fire management and prevention. The sessions trained over 80 participants from the Kamayura, Waura, Yuwalapiti, Kalapalo, Matipu, Nafukua, Veha, Kuikuro, and Aweti tribes as well as students, settlers, ranchers, occupational health and safety workers, and members from local/federal fire organizations: Fire Brigade and Prevfog/IBAMA, respectively

In June 2013, the USFS hosted fire experts and decision makers from Prevfogo/IBAMA, Aliança da Terra, and the environmental protection agency of Mato Grosso state to visit the United States and learn how numerous American agencies coordinate fire prevention and firefighting across many types of public lands.
