KABUL, AFGHANISTAN- It is with a profound sense of sadness and regret that we mourn the tragic loss of 11 of our Afghan colleagues on May 18 and 19, 2005.
Each of these men was working for the betterment of his family, his community, and his country -- for this they were brutally murdered.
On behalf of the U.S. Embassy and the entire American community in Afghanistan, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the victims.

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN- USAID announced today a $2.5 million grant to the Afghanistan Ministry of Women's Affairs. USAID Administrator Andrew S. Natsios said the grant would further USAID's commitment to assist the Ministry to fulfill its purpose of advocacy and policy development to improve the status and lives of women in Afghanistan. Dr. Massouda Jalal, Minister of Women's Affairs, welcomed the news of the funding at a meeting in Washington with Mr. Natsios and Undersecretary of State Paula J. Dobriansky.
