New Delhi, India – In an effort to strengthen commercial and economic ties between Afghanistan and India through trade and investment, the Governments of India and Afghanistan, along with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), opened the first “Passage to Prosperity: India-Afghanistan Trade and Investment Show”. The event brings together more than 200 representatives from Afghan companies and more than 800 Indian participants to forge new business connections and discuss potential investment opportunities.

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN- USAID Mission Director Patrick Fine said “This is a special program for Uruzgan Province where we are testing fertilizer and seed distribution as a model for a national program to be implemented during the fall planting season.”
 
A new seed and fertilizer distribution program sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in cooperation with the Afghan government was launched Saturday, July 2 in Southern Afghanistan’s Tirin Kot District, Uruzgan Province.

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN- It is with a profound sense of sadness and regret that we mourn the tragic loss of 11 of our Afghan colleagues on May 18 and 19, 2005.  
 
Each of these men was working for the betterment of his family, his community, and his country -- for this they were brutally murdered.
 
On behalf of the U.S. Embassy and the entire American community in Afghanistan, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the victims.

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN- USAID announced today a $2.5 million grant to the Afghanistan Ministry of Women's Affairs. USAID Administrator Andrew S. Natsios said the grant would further USAID's commitment to assist the Ministry to fulfill its purpose of advocacy and policy development to improve the status and lives of women in Afghanistan. Dr. Massouda Jalal, Minister of Women's Affairs, welcomed the news of the funding at a meeting in Washington with Mr. Natsios and Undersecretary of State Paula J. Dobriansky.
